Rosario “Rosie” Horn
Rosario “Rosie” Horn, 59, Harvard, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Mercy Janesville Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 4, 1952, in Havana, Cuba to Jose Rey Sr. and Rosario Garmendia. She married Frank Horn on July 2, 1977 in Harvard. She came to the United States from Cuba in 1963 with her parents and brother when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Harvard High School in 1973 and began her career at Mercy Harvard Hospital where she worked as nurse’s aide and housekeeper. Her dream was to become a mother and did so in 1982, when she gave birth to her only child, Jennifer. She was a proud and devoted mother. She was also a very loyal and caring daughter, as she took care of her mother until she became ill. She committed herself to her family providing compassion, patience and love to all who needed her. Her passion for helping others led her to volunteering at the Harvard Food Pantry and PADS Homeless Shelter. She also worked as a translator and read with children in the Harvard school district. Rosie loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed going out with her husband on the weekends, traveling to Wisconsin to see her daughter direct musical performances, traveling on the train to Chicago to shop, dine and go to the theater. She was a music lover and loved to dance. Rosie was always the first and last one on the dance floor. Rosie loved to laugh and had a smile that would light up the room. She was also a lover of animals and enjoyed spending time with her family dogs. She was a strong, compassionate woman who touched many lives. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Survivors include her mother, Rosario Rey; her husband; daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Barncar, Kenosha, Wis.; brother, Jose (Linda) Rey; nieces, Lauren Rey and Melina Ray, Queens, N.Y.; and sister-in-law, Sue (Erin) Dimick, New Symrna Beach, Fla. A visitation was held May 11 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home. A The funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
