Two businesses join Beleca Vi

Beleca Vi, located at 18 N. Ayer St., Harvard, is a health and beauty salon consisting of independent providers offering cosmetic surgery, hair coloring, massages and handcrafted soaps and lotions. In early January, Kiki Bender joined the team at Beleca Vi, opening her hairstyling salon, Kiki’s Tropical Touch. Her hair salon previously was located about a block away, but the building was bought by Angelo’s Pizza, forcing her to relocate. She unintentionally came upon Dr. Maureen Kidd, founder of Beleca Vi, who suggested that she transfer her business to the building at Beleca Vi. Bender considered Kidd’s proposal, and then she decided to jump onboard.

“I have 30 years of experience in the Harvard area,” Bender said. “I’m a color expert. I do colors, perms and weddings. I also do camouflage, blending colors in so that it looks natural.”

But it is not merely her experience and expertise that draws customers; it’s also the affordability, Bender said.

“I think I’m the most reasonable coloring person in town,” she said. “I try to make it so that anybody can afford it. I think a lot of places charge too much money for coloring.”

Although she likes the new location and atmosphere of her business, Bender said it still might take some time for her long-time clientele to get used to the change.

“They think the building is beautiful, but it’s taken awhile to adjust,” Bender said, noting the contrast of moving from a place where she was the sole practitioner to a building shared by several independent practitioners.

Another business joining the team at Beleca Vi is Calvin Reed, a masseur, who will run Massages by Calvin. Reed started talking to Kidd a few months ago about joining the team at Beleca Vi. Reed’s connections to Bender allowed him to meet with Kidd and join up with Beleca Vi in February.

“I used to give Kiki massages,” Reed said. “So she referred me to Maureen.”

Reed plans to offer Swedish and deep tissue massage.

“It will be by appointment,” Reed said. “[Services and costs] will be based on time, whatever the customer wants.”

Along with Bender and Reed, Beleca Vi is occupied by Kidd, who offers services in cosmetic surgery and also manages BV’s Boutique, featuring upscale resale for women, clothing and shoes, locally handcrafted lotions and soaps, music from local and regional artists on CD, and artwork from local and regional artists.

Beleca Vi’s building has a 35-by-15-foot room available, which Kidd hopes will be occupied soon for exercise classes, and one more 15-by-15-foot space available for a professional business, in line with Beleca Vi’s health and beauty theme, such as nails or acupuncture.
